TAG App Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 20, 2026
TAG is a parental-control and device-protection app for iOS, operated by TAG (Technology Awareness Group). It lets a parent or guardian lock chosen apps on a device, set schedules and time limits, approve temporary access, and see the device's location through the TAG parent portal. This policy describes what data the app processes, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights.
1. What the app processes
- Device pairing. A short pairing code and a device name link the device to a parent-portal account so the parent's rules reach the right device.
- Locked-app selection. Which apps are locked is chosen on the device using Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) picker. Apple's app identifiers are opaque; the app reports a scrambled identifier and the app's display name to the portal so the parent can set rules per app.
- Location (optional). If the location toggle is turned on, the device periodically reports its position (latitude, longitude, accuracy, time) to the parent portal, including in the background. This is off until enabled, and iOS shows the standard location indicator whenever it is in use.
- Access requests. When someone taps "Request access" on a locked app, the request (device, app name, time) is sent to TAG / the parent for approval.
- Rules and schedules. Lock schedules, time budgets, and temporary-access grants set in the portal are delivered to the device and enforced on the device itself, even offline.
- Parent-portal account. A parent who creates a portal account provides a name, email address, phone number, and password.
2. What we do NOT collect
- Browsing history, page content, messages, search queries, or keystrokes
- Contacts, calendar, photos, microphone, or camera data
- Screen-time usage profiles for advertising, or any advertising identifiers
- Payment, financial, health, or biometric data
App locking and schedules are enforced by iOS on the device itself; TAG's servers receive the rules and the app list described above, not what the device is used for.
3. How we use it
Data is used solely to provide parental control: applying the parent's rules to the paired device, showing the device's location to its parent or guardian, and processing access requests. We do not build advertising or behavioral profiles, and we do not sell data to anyone.
4. Who we share with
- The device's parent, guardian, or administrator, who sees the device's location, locked apps, and requests in the TAG parent portal.
- TAG's own servers, which store the pairing, rules, and location reports that make the service work.
- We do NOT sell or share data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party.
5. How long we keep data
- Location reports: retained so the parent can see recent history, deleted when the device is removed from the portal.
- Pairing, rules, and app lists: retained while the device is enrolled, deleted when the device is removed.
- Access requests: retained as a short administrative record.
6. Your rights
- Access or deletion: Email [email protected] to request a copy or deletion of the data associated with your device or account; deletion requests are honored within 30 days.
- Location control: The location toggle can be turned off in the app, and iOS location permission can be revoked in Settings at any time.
7. Children's privacy
TAG is installed by a parent or guardian on a family member's device as a protection tool. The data it processes about the device's user is limited to what Section 1 lists — locked-app names, optional location, and access requests — visible only to that device's parent or guardian and to TAG for support. It is never used to profile children or for advertising.
8. Security
- All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS / TLS.
- Unlock codes are stored on the device as a cryptographic hash in the iOS Keychain; TAG's servers never see the code in plain text.
- Servers are operated by TAG; access requires authentication.
